Pre Employment Screening - Hazmat Drivers

In a recent Washington Times article, it has been revealed that Figerprinting and Pre Employment Screening will Soon be Required for Hazmat Truck Drivers. Trucking and transportation of hazardous materials has always been regulated by the government. However, since September 11, the U.S. government has increased scrutiny of the transportation industry significantly. Rencently, the TSA has made a policy change on employee backgorund checks. Effective May 31, 2005 the Homeland Security Department, in conjunction with the Transportation Security Administration, is mandating that all truck drivers responsible for transporting hazardous materials must undergo employee background checks. The pre employment screening process will involve fingerprinting and a search of the FBI's NCIC criminal history database.
